Mr Holmes

Dear Parents:

It is with honor and great pleasure that I greet you as the new Principal of Amherst Middle School. I hope this summer has been a relaxing one spent with family, friends, and loved ones. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to the Amherst Middle family. I have been dedicated to the field of education for more than twenty-four years. During this time, my experiences include teaching elementary, being a middle school assistant principal at Amherst Middle School, an elementary school principal, and the principal of a middle school. I have been  married to my wife Robin for twenty-eight wonderful years, and we are blessed with two amazing children, Austin, who is twenty-four, and Amanda who is eighteen.

As parents, you play a vital role on our team. Greek Philosopher, Aristotle stated, “The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.” This quote has been used on multiple occasions to communicate the importance of synergy and teamwork. Your involvement in your student’s education is critical to ensure their success and provide a memorable middle school experience. We encourage you to communicate with your student’s teachers and administration so that we will work together for the success of our students, our school, and our community.

The summer provides our faculty, staff, and administration the opportunity to prepare for a great school year. We have been working collaboratively and diligently to ensure the academic, social, and emotional growth of our students. Our goal is to continue to provide a positive educational experience, preparing our students to be life-long learners.   The faculty and staff at Amherst Middle School are very excited to welcome our students and their families to our Open House on Thursday, August 16, 2018, from 1:00 until 7:00 PM. We will also have a representative from the transportation department, cafeteria, PTO, and other resources to help make the beginning of the 2018-2019 school year a smooth transition.  I take great pride in serving as your principal, and I look forward to a successful school year. I am very excited for Monday, August 20th, the first day of school for Amherst County Public Schools.
